Important

This guide is informational and may not fit every setup. We do not provide third‑party support services. Always back up configuration files and test changes in small steps.

Understand the goal

Load order is about which changes win when multiple mods edit similar things. A clean approach:

  • Keep changes intentional (avoid overlapping mods that do the same job).
  • Group mods by function (UI, visuals, gameplay, quests, etc.).
  • Test after small batches, not after 50 installs.

Quick checklist

  1. Remove duplicates: don’t run multiple mods with the same purpose unless you know why.
  2. Read install notes: many mods specify placement or required patches.
  3. Patch where needed: use compatibility patches when mods overlap.
  4. Sort consistently: don’t constantly reshuffle the entire list.
  5. Test with a clean save: diagnose on a controlled baseline.

Diagnose safely

If you see unexpected behavior, diagnose in a controlled way:

  • Disable one group at a time (e.g., gameplay mods) and retest.
  • Re‑enable in smaller subsets to isolate the conflict.
  • Keep notes on what changed between tests.

Isolation beats guesswork.

Common conflict patterns

  • Two mods edit the same records: the later one wins, causing “missing” changes from the earlier one.
  • Visual packs overlap: mixed textures/meshes can look inconsistent.
  • Script-heavy combinations: too many overlapping systems can cause instability.

Document your final order

Once stable, export or record your mod list and order. Include:

  • Versions
  • Required patches
  • Any special rules you followed

This makes reinstallation and future updates dramatically easier.
